Jo Cox

16/06/16.

I don’t know the full details of why this British MP has just been murdered in the street and I probably won’t because it seems more important to honour an MP who asked questions that sought to protect the most vulnerable members of our society, and indeed across the world.

This month she used her Parliamentary privilege to ask questions to protect children’s rights during conflict, especially the Syrian Conflict.  She was instrumental in raising the profile of the horrific situation for the populace of Syria, and had been a vocal voice for  highlighting the issues that the poorest have here, asking the Department of Work and Pensions to adopt recommendations in the Feed Britain All Party Inquiry report to ensure no child in Britain has to start the day hungry.

She asked questions of the Dept of Health as to what steps they were taking to support carers in their efforts to assist people with mental illness.

She also campaigned against slavery around the world and was involved with the Freedom Fund.  http://freedomfund.org/

She had only got started in parliament and was an important fresh voice amongst the jaded professional politicos in it for their own gain. She was a voice for good.  She was still more activist than MP. She believed in a better world. And was silenced too soon.
